Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first. King XI Punjab scored 163 for all out in 20 overs, Shaun Marsh being the top scorer of 57. Lasith Malinga bowled a fine spell taking 4 wickets for 22 runs only. Chasing the target MI lost Tendulkar's wicket early but valuable 50 from Sikhar Dhawan and contribution from middle order helped to chase the target losing 6 wickets.

2 Shaun Marsh has scored fifties in his first game of both the seasons he has played. In 2008, Marsh made an unbeaten 84 (vs Deccan Chargers). He wasn't a part of KXIP's squad in 2009.
