1st Semifinal - Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (21st April 2010)

Result: Mumbai Indians won by 35 runs and entered to Final of DLF IPL3

As the semifinal venues were shifted from Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai after the blast, so the 1st semifinal between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore played at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first but Tendulkar fell early. Again some quick wickets send the MI team to back-foot till 15th over of the match. Tiwary and Rayudu played a valuable partnership to build the innings. Finally, the blast from Pollard towards end helped them to score 184/5 in 20 overs. Chasing the target, RCB lost wickets in regular intervals. Again a fine spell of bowling from Pollard and good wicket keeping by Rayudu, helped them restrict the RCB 149/9 in 20 overs. With the win Mumbai Indians entered to the IPL final for the first time and qualified for the Champions League T20 tournament.

Kieron Pollard wss the MoM for his all-round effort, Kamaal catch award went to JP Duminy
and the Maximum sixes award to 'Saurabh Tiwary'.

Numbers that mattered, Semi-Final 1

179.56 Kieron Pollard’s strike-rate in the tournament – highest for any batsman with 100 or more runs.

77  Runs scored by Mumbai Indians in last 5 overs, which equals the best performance by a side in this IPL. Interestingly it was Royal Challengers Bangalore, who made 77 against Deccan Chargers at Bengaluru on April 8.

17  out of 33 wickets taken by Lasith Malinga in IPL have been BOWLED !!!

16  Number of sixes conceded by Jacques Kallis and R Vinay Kumar in this IPL. These two now share the dubious distinction of conceding most sixes in this IPL, alongwith Delhi’s Amit Mishra.

8  Number of matches Mumbai Indians have won while defending a target out of 11 games.

2  Kieron Pollard is the second player to score 30+ runs and take 3 wickets in an IPL semi-final. Only other player to do this is Rajasthan’s Shane Watson who made 52 and took 3-10 against Chennai in 2008.

1  Mumbai’s win provided the first instance of a “home” win in seven encounters between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. On all other six occasions the “away” team won the match.

1  Sachin Tendulkar made his first single-digit score in this IPL.
