Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field first. KXIP started well and scored a fighting total of 174/3 in 20 overs. Sangakara (52) and Jayawardene (93) were the main contributor to build the innings. Chasing the target, tough Chargers lost some quick wickets but a fine partnership from Suman and Rohit Sharma helped them to win the match by 5 wickets keeping their semifinal hope alive.
Rohit Sharma wss the MoM for his unbeaten 68, Juan Theron got the 'kamaal catch' award and
Suman got the 'maximum sixes' award.

93 Mahela Jayawardene’s unbeaten innings of 93 is the highest by a Kings XI Punjab batsman against Deccan Chargers, obliterating the unbeaten 84 by Shaun Marsh at Hyderabad in 2008.
