IPL3 Final - Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Superkings (26th April 2010)


Result: Chennai Super Kings won IPL3 by 22 runs

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. Quick 57 from Raina (dropped twice) and
contributions from other batsman, CSK put a fighting total of 168 in front of MI to chase. MI started the innings slowly and picked after 10 overs but constant loss of wickets created pressure with increasing NRR in every over. Pollard played from fiery shots towards end but it was too late for Mumbai Indians to win the match. They were restricted into 146. CSK won the IPL trophy for 1st time.

Suresh Raina won the Man of the Match Award and also the maximum six award. Sachin Tendulkar is the DLF Golden Player of IPL 3. Pragyan Ojha collected the Purple Cap while Sachin Tendulkar collected the Orange Cap.

Dhoni collected the Kingfisher fairplay award. S Tiwary got the U-23 success of the tournament award. Andrew Symonds got the 'Karbol Kamaal catches' award for the whole of IPL 3.


Numbers that mattered, IPL 2010 Final

618 Runs scored by Sachin Tendulkar in the tournament - the maximum by any batsman in a single edition of IPL. Shaun Marsh had aggregated 616 runs in 2008.

168 Chennai Super King’s total was the highest total in an IPL final.

100 Runs scored by Chennai Super Kings batsmen in last eight overs.

57 Raina’s innings was the highest by a batsman in an IPL final. Yusuf Pathan had made 56 for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai at this same venue in 2008. Interestingly, Raina had also top-scored for CSK with 43 in the 2008 final against Rajasthan Royals.

33 Runs scored by Mumbai Indians in the Powerplay - the least they scored in this IPL. This was also the lowest Powerplay score in an IPL final.

26 Number of sixes hit by Murali Vijay in the tournament – second most in this IPL after Robin Uthappa (27).

5 Number of times R Ashwin bowled the first over of opposition innings in this IPL. He conceded only 12 runs (RpO 2.40) while capturing one wicket.

3 Ashwin’s first over was a maiden, which made him the third bowler to bowl a maiden in an IPL final after Mkhaya Ntini (2008) and Ryan Harris (2009).
