Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Daredevils (17th March 2010)

Result: Mumbai Indians won by 98 runs

Delhi Daredevils own the toss and asked Mumbai Indians to bat first. Sachin and Jayasuriya started the innings with quick shots. Sachin scored 62 from 32 balls and useful partnership between Sourav Tiwary and A. Rayudu took MI to a comfortable position. For the second consecutive match, MI scored more than 200 (218/7). Delhi started the chase without the captain Gambhir who succumbed to hamstring injury while fielding.   Sewhag & Dilshan started the innings with some powerful strokes but after their departure DD innings collapsed to 120/9 giving a comfortable 98 run win to MI.

Tendulkar was the Man of the Match for his blistering knock of 63 in just 32 balls.

Numbers that mattered, Match 9

  • 3 Number of batsmen to be out stumped in the match – the highest number in the IPL. The only other time this happened was during the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings match at Kimberley, South Africa, in 2009.
  • 12 Number of wickets claimed for Lasith Malinga by clean bowling the batsman – the highest number of wickets taken by any bowler in this manner in the IPL. Interestingly, this manner of dismissals makes up 57.14 per cent of Malinga’s wickets tally!
  • 15 Number of overs in which Mumbai Indians scored at least 10 runs. In contrast, the Delhi Daredevils only had six such overs.
  • 23 The number of balls taken by Sachin Tendulkar to reach his fifty – the fastest fifty by any Mumbai Indian batsman in the IPL. The previous fastest was by Sanath Jayasuriya, 26 balls for his fifty against Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai in 2008.
  • 38 Score at which both sides lost their first wicket – after exactly 3.4 overs!
  • 98 Mumbai Indians’ victory margin of 98 runs is their best ever in the IPL. This beat their previous highest victory margin, when they had beaten Kolkata by 92 runs at Port Elizabeth in 2009.
  • 218 Mumbai’s total is the highest by any side in the IPL 2010. Incidentally, the previous highest was also made by Mumbai when they posted 212-6 against Rajasthan Royals at DY Patil Stadium on March 13.
