Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to field. Kings XI Punjab scored 142/9 with the classic fifty of Ravi Bopara. None of the other Punjab batsman was able to provide support to him. Chasing a target of 143, Delhi Daredevils lost early wicket of Sewhag & Dilshan from a fine over from Sreesanth. But Gambhir played the captain's innings of 72 helping Daredevils to win the match in 5 wickets.
Gambhir was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his splendid knock, The classic catch award winner was Farveez Maharoof and Kumar Sangakkara won maximum sixes award.

- 72 Gautam Gambhir registered his highest score as Delhi Daredevils’ captain. This was also the highest individual score for a Delhi batsman against Punjab, beating Virender Sehwag’s unbeaten 51 at Delhi in 2008.
- 11 Number of players who have appeared for TWO teams in the IPL with Mohammad Kaif being the latest entrant to this exclusive club. Kaif had appeared for all 16 games for Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and was not selected for the 2009 edition.
