Result: Royal Challengers won by 8 wkts

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first. Ravi Bopara (77) and Manvinder Bisla (75) helped to put a mammoth total of 203/3. Requiring 204 to win Royal Challengers Bangalore chased the target in 18.5 over by superb batting from Kallis (89) and Robin Uthapa (51). Uthapa scored the seconf fastest fifty in IPL by 19 balls only.

Kallis is now the highest run scorer of the IPL and will take over the orange cap from Ravi Bopara also declared as the Man of the Match.

Numbers that mattered, Match 7

  • 1200 The first six of the Royal Challengers Bangalore innings (hit by Jacques Kallis off Yusuf Abdulla) was the 1200th in all IPL matches. 
  • 89 Runs scored by Jacques Kallis – his highest score in any Twenty20 game. 
  • 20 Number of sixes hit in the match – seven for Kings XI Punjab and 13 for Royal Challengers Bangalore – the maximum in a match in this edition and third highest in all IPL matches. 
  • 19 Number of balls taken by Robin Uthappa to reach his fifty – the fastest fifty in this edition and second fastest in all IPL matches. Only Adam Gilchrist has raced to his fifty off lesser balls (17)
  • 8.62 Sreesanth’s economy-rate (runs per over) in the IPL. Among the bowlers who have bowled at least 50 overs in the tournament, Sreesanth’s economy is the at the bottom of the table, but for one player. VRV Singh, with an RpO of 8.80, saves him the ignominy.
  • Number of batsmen to score fifties in the match – Ravi Bopara and MS Bisla for Kings XI Punjab; and Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa for Royal Challengers Bangalore. 
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore became only the second side to chase down a victory target of 200 or more in IPL. Rajasthan Royals (in 2008) remain the only other side to do so. 
  • 100 The strike-rate of all nine batsmen from both sides was over 100! This is the first such instance in IPL.
